Android one finger zoom

by VMax on May.19, 2010, under Technical

I recently bought my first smart phone, the Sony Ericsson X10 Android 1.6 handset.

After getting used to some Android 1.6 quirks, I’m very much looking forward to the 2.* update coming in Q4 2010.

Because of the USPTO giving Apple every patent they can imagine, Android is getting sued over things like the unlock screen. A patent that was granted on the 2nd of February, 2010. The fact that this function is already implemented (for a long time) on different brands and operating systems doesn’t seem to be an issue for the USPTO.

Patent #7,657,849: Unlocking A Device By Performing Gestures On An Unlock Image

Apple has been granted way too many ridiculous patents. Most of these patents only are valid in the United States, but the good side of things is that they do force other manufacturers to think of new (better) solutions to patented problems.

Just what Sony Ericsson did recently.

They developed an one finger zoom for Android. One finger is great, one hand touch operation is great in general. They also included a guide for implementing their functionality in your software. I just hope they patent this idea as quickly as possible..
