Kode9

by VMax on Nov.19, 2007, under Music

Kode9Kode9: the king of dubstep? Yes, maybe he is. Why?
Some say because of his success with his own Hyperdub label, some say because of his refreshing dubstep basses. I’m sure Hyperdub has something to do with it, this label is releasing the hottest tracks you can get on this moment. One of there latest releases, the Kode9 remix of Find My Way, is definitely one to check out! That record has also got a second track which explains why The Space Ape with his dark lyrics is the perfect choice for vocals on Kode9′s records. If you’re not so familiar with dubstep you should try the new “Dubstep Drama: The Official Soundtrack To Dubplate Drama Series 2” cd. It’s not that heavy on the basses but a good cd to start with. Also you can try tuning in to rinse.fm.

This is it for now, I wanted to do a bigger piece on Hyperdub and Kode9 but I ain’t got much inspiration right now..
I also know i’m slacking a bit on the posts, doing my best to post more regularly.

Ed Solo & Skool Of Thought

by VMax on Oct.16, 2007, under Music

against_the_grain.jpgA while ago I heard the vinyl ‘Babylon Breaks‘ that is released on the ‘Against The Grain‘ label. The A side of this record, ‘Babylon Breaks’, goes very deep and has an incredible breakbeat bassline! Sounds something like upbeat dubstep, something I like! What they’ve done with the B side is a total riddle for me, ‘Believe in the funk’ is a club dancefloor track and sounds very electro-ish. This while the other side is so made for rippin’ up the underground parties.

Anyway, this release only is not the reason why i’m blogging this. There is a new release on Lloyd’s label. ( Lloyd = Skool Of Thought & he’s also the owner of Against The Grain ) ‘Always There‘ is this new 12″. The track itself is again filled with bass and awesome lyrics of Incognito! These lyrics are reworked nicely, sounds neat. Definitely a track that can be played on parties with mainstream people.. The second track, ‘Sludge’, sounds more like dubstep. Again the deep bass wich is Ed Solo‘s specialty! Overall, both artists are great producers. I’m sure waiting for there next release!

Soundclash – Screw Face

by VMax on Sep.09, 2007, under Music

cs279855-01a.jpgDirty Dubs, a label used by Benny Page to release some tracks under his alias Soundclash, has released a third promo record: “Screw Face”. The first side has the track “Screw Face” on it. A track mainly about a deep bassline and a short vocal, “Move back!”. The sound is quite repetitive, but cool. No fancy stuff, just the beat. The second side holds the track “Over Me”. There’s a MC spitting it out over the whole track. This track has more action, a couple of breakdowns and samples.. Overall a good record like you would expect from Benny!
